Last night, Tim and I went to see Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (or M:I:VIII as no-one is calling it) at the Vue in glitzy Islington.
Meh.
We’re both big fans of the MI series and have both seen all previous seven films - so we were predisposed to love it. Sadly we didn’t. It was only ok. Not great. A bit of a mess really. A bit of a damp squib to end the series.
The dialogue is clunky, the film is too long, and the acting is wooden.
Granted, there were some great set-pieces (500ft below the Artic ice and hanging 10,000ft off a bi-plane) but there just weren’t enough of them.
And then there was the AI baddy known as “The Entity” - yes, that really was its name. We couldn’t really avoid the name - it was mentioned 57 times (I counted).
“Ok team. How are we going to defeat “The Entity”?
“I don’t know Ethan.
“Will “The Entity” anticipate our next move?
“It’s “The Entity”. It always anticipates.
“What do you think “The Entity” will do next then?
Etc etc
The Lilo & Stitch remake was better. No really.
