Arsenal 2-1 Olympiakos...

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was a star last night when at 18 he became the youngest English Champions League scorer.

Drew and I went to the Emirates Stadium expecting an easy win for the Arsenal. But that's not what we got. A win, yes, but a very nervy one.

Andre Santos gave us our second goal sure but when Olympiakos pulled one back we felt we were on borrowed time.

Luckily we held out though to get a much needed morale boosting win.

50th Birthday Party...

I had a completely fantastic 50th birthday party last Saturday night. 240 of my nearest and dearest crowded into the Assembly Hall in Islington and we partied the night away together. The fabulous The Puppini Sisters performed too. It was probably the best birthday party I'd ever had - so thank you all the people who made it so special - Bryn for coming over from the States to take the photographs, Darren who organised the music, Mark for the rude cup-cakes, Stuart, Mark and Davie for helping out on the big day and Duncan for the flowers.

Below are some thumbnails of some of the photos. There is also a 365 photo slide show to watch here is you're feeling brave.

Facebook Changes (again)...

Facebook logo
Death, taxes and Facebook changes. They come to us all.

The news feed now places an emphasis on "top stories" instead of recent posts. So users who don't regularly visit the site will only see these top stories, which are based on your relationship to the person who posted, the type of story posted and the number of comments and likes received. Frequent visitors will see an option to expand recent posts at the top of the page. Top stories are marked with a little blue triangle in the top-left corner of each post.

To make up for the lack of a proper timeline in Facebook's main news feed, a "news ticker" now appears on the top-right corner of the screen, showing friends' latest updates in chronological order. Clicking on these updates shows the full story and all related likes and comments.

Hey ho.

Google+ opened to world+dog...

Google+ has now been opened up to everyone so you no longer need an invite to join. I wonder if it'll worry Facebook or Twitter. I doubt it. They can just copy the best features and that'll see it off I imagine. Time will tell.

Top of the World Trade Center 27th July 2001...

This video message David and I recorded at the video booth on the top of the World Trade Center in New York on 27th July 2001. It's very short. Just 11 seconds long. There were a few tracks to choose from at the booth but The Carpenters' Top Of The World was the obvious choice. It was just for a bit of fun. It cost us $2 I think. If I remember correctly we sent it to a couple of friends back in the UK and my Hotmail address. It was sent by AT&T. It turned up some weeks later. Just before the horrific attacks of 9/11.

World Trade Center 27th July 2001...

On 27th July 2001 David and I went up the World Trade Center. One month before the attacks.

This is what I wrote that day; "Today we did an open top bus tour of downtown Manhattan followed by a trip up the World Trade Center. What a tip-top experience that is - go if you get the chance. The view is amazing and the amusements at the top kept us giggling for over two hours. After all that excitement we opted for a leisurely walk across the Brooklyn Bridge."

RIP all that lost their lives.

We had a fab time in Ibiza this year. Stu, Tim, Andy, David and I spent 10 days staying at the Hotel Cenit in Figueretas. It's a really nice 2 star hotel with a great pool, sun-lounging area and bar. The rooms are fairly basic but adequate. We stayed in room 203 - the best room in the place IMHO. We got the wi-fi signal quite strongly from the reception area and a great view. We spent most of our time down by the pool - me getting rather sunburned on the first day (oh, now British) - and the evenings scouting around for places to eat and then bar hopping afterwards; JJ's, Angelo's, Anfora's - the usual places. On the Thursday night Anfora got raided by the police. It was only for noise levels but I'm sure I saw a few euros changing hands. A raid AND police corruption all in one night! I feel so cool sometimes. We did spend a couple of days doing slightly different things too; we 'did' the Old Town and Cathedral one day - lovely views - and also took a boat trip to Formentera - over-long voyage to an island south of Ibiza but worth it for the lovely beaches. So all in all a great holiday. We'll be going back I'm sure. Maybe as a package trip next time though - it's way cheaper than booking it as separate flight and hotel.
