MOn another visit to the Tate Britain last week (and while Paul was going to see The 80s exhibition) I took a chance to pop into the Ed Atkins exhibition and also look round the permanent collection.
Ed Atkins is a British contemporary artist best known for his high def video art and poetry.
Many of his videos feature a computer generated avatar as an isolated protagonist, whose poetic soliloquies intimately address the viewer. This protagonist, often surrounded by generic stock images and cinematic special effects, lives deep within the “uncanny valley”. Ooh er.
Currently based in Cophenhagen. Atkins lectures at University of Fine Arts Hamburg and has been referred to as "one of the great artists of our time".
The permanent collection at Tate Britain is always fun. I often forget how much good stuff is there.
