Airport Swimming…

So the next best thing to being at the game tonight is to be in a swimming pool at Punta Cano airport watching the planes takeoff and land 🛫🛬 😅

InterContinental Santo Domingo…

Apologies for the gratuitous “this is us in an infinity pool high up on a posh hotel” photos. But this hotel is fab. For some reason* they upgraded us to a suite too. It’s huge. Stuart is worth it. Just. 😎😅

Santo Domingo…

Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic is what happens when history gets dressed up for cocktails. And then chokes on an olive. 

Columbus was here. But probably overdid it. 

The new areas go from rough and ready to modern high rise. The old town has its cobbled streets, a nice cathedral, churches older than most countries, and enough museums to make an history teacher weep with joy. The glitzy Zona Colonial serves conquistador chic with a side order of rum and questionable colonial decision making. 

Nice change from the beach.

The Rose Field…

For those that asked… yeah there were petals. Lots and lots of red petals. Just like in Mexico. Thankfully no Mariachi band this time though.

Race Across the World…

So Stuart and I have just ‘recorded our audition tape’ for Race Across the World. 😅📺

Without any phone reception📱we managed to scramble in a taxi 🚕 to an out of the way bus station 🚏, make ourselves vaguely understood by the ticket seller 📣, shove some digital cash under her nose 💵, scramble on a bus 🚌 going what was hopefully generally in the right direction for 3 hours ➡️, and then jump off at the side of the road 🛣️ in a city where we had no idea where we were 🧐. Then blew the budget on a final taxi 🚕 to where we actually wanted to be. 

They do say it’s all about the journey not the destination! 😅 

Luckily the hotel 🏨 when we got there, was well worth it. 

(Note to self: next time buy an eSIM!)
