Today we left the capital San Jose far behind and travelled by bus and by river boat to Costa Rica’s spectacular Caribbean coast.
We are spending a couple of nights in a lodge on the edge of the Tortuguero National Park, in the heart of the tropical rainforest. It’s green. It’s lush. And it’s a little piece of paradise on Earth.
Evergreen Lodge is a typical rustic jungle lodge. The various parts of the property are linked by raised walkways and most rooms have raised balconies. So it is a great spot to see the abundance of wildlife.
We spotted spider monkeys, howler monkeys, sloths, buzzards, ants as big as your thumbnail, poisonous spiders, a river otter, a rare hawk-eagle, a blue Morpho butterfly, and loads of lesser spotted tourists.
Yes, it’s a bit of a tourist hotspot here. Still, gives Stu and I endless fun people watching.
Great start to our holibubs.
