It’s fab. More than fab, it’s great.
Tennant simply commands the stage in this stripped back version of this, one of Shakespeare’s most gory and supernatural tragedies.
Cush Jumbo plays Lady Macbeth and she is equally, devastatingly good.
The production uses “binaural technology” to create an intense and unnerving 3D sound world. Basically that meant we all wore headphones.
Cue: loud music, jump scares, stereophonic trickery, and perhaps most rewardingly the ability of the actors to whisper.
It meant that totem speeches could be reinterpreted as whispered and creepy confessions.
“If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well it were done quickly.” Never sounded so powerful.
