Tallinn…

Stuart and arrived in Tallinn, Estonia last night. And from the get-go knew we were going to love it.

Beautiful Old Town with colourful houses, winding cobblestone alleyways, and hidden courtyards to explore. And a young, friendly, and good-looking crowd. The place had a buzz about it too.

Today was all about hitting the tourist trail however. The nightlife would have to wait. And there was a lot to take in…

Pikk Street - long, windy, full of stone houses and cosy shops right through the Old Town. Very pretty.

Tallinn Old Town Square (Raekoja Plats) -  centre of everything; beautiful historical houses, bars and cafes.

St Olav’s Church - Rose off of Golden Girls would have loved it. St Olav! Ha! 12th century too.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral - main Russian Orthadox church. Very glitzy. Russian though! Boo. Domed and doomed.

Two nice viewing platforms - Patkuli and Kohtuotsa. Great views over the city towards the port.

Masters’ Courtyard (Meistrite Hoov) - recreation of a Medieval alleyway. A bit Harry Potter. Nice though.

St Catherine’s Passage (Katariina Käik) - picturesque alleyway with 15th century buildings on one side and the wall of the St Catherine’s Friary on the other. More Harry Potter-esque.

Hellemann Tower and Town Wall Walkway - 200m stretch of the old 14th century city wall. The walkway was very high and very rickety. The towers had stupidly steep spiral stone staircases. Great views though.

Kiek in de Kök - another city wall site this time up a hill. There were four large towers each connected by an elevated wooden walkway. The largest tower was 6 levels, and contained a museum. Canons, swords, and more stupidly steep stone spiral staircases! Great fun though.

By this point we were knackered so headed back to our hotel for a rest - Radisson Collection (19th floor) - luckily with a lift and not a spiral staircase in sight.

We’ll need a rest - as the night life beckons!
