Meh.
First the positive. Great to go to Old Trafford with the gaygooners.
Less good was the Manc’s anti-owner protest outside the away entrance before kick-off that saw fan fights, some bloodshed, and lead to police horses getting involved. Not seen such violence in quite some time.
And the game was a disappointment too.
Mikel Arteta’s 200th Premier League game as Arsenal manager was a wake-up call, if one we still needed, for another title challenge that fell short.
Liverpool are now 15 points ahead.
Arsenal’s “almost men” put up a tepid performance in this 1-1 draw that mirrored many of our performances this season.
Yes, the Gunners controlled the ball for most of the game with 70% possession, but couldn’t find the back of the net until Declan Rice scored a 74th-minute goal to level Bruno Fernandes’ early free-kick opener.
Arsenal’s struggles have been ongoing. We didn’t sign a striker when needed to. Our purchase strategy seems flawed. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, along with the absence of key player Bukayo Saka, hasn’t helped.
This season’s title race was frankly a missed opportunity for Arsenal. We came close to Manchester City in the last two campaigns but couldn’t finish the job. City’s unexpected collapse opened up a chance for Liverpool, who have stepped through the door. Arsenal has stumbled again.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta voiced the frustration we all feel in the press conference afterwards. He knows we aren’t good enough.
So what are we going to do about it?
Champions League win, anyone?
Onwards and upwards, my friends.
