Finnair Platinum Wing…

Early on this week, Stuart and I were flying home from Helsinki. And after a bit of encouragement by our number one travel advisor Darce, we sought out the famous Finnair Platinum Wing lounge before our flight.

It took a bit of finding. After security. By gate 52. But when we did, boy was it worth it. Worth the trip to Helsinki by itself.

When we walked in, we were just really impressed. It was big, it was light, it was airy, it was empty!

The first thing you see is a big island bar in the middle serving champagne and cocktails. All included of course. One of the two barmen was quick to catch our eye.

Hugging our champagne & red wine respectively we found a place to sit. There were a number of different seating areas to choose from all with different styles of tables and chairs all with lots of plugs to keep your kit fully charged.

The design of the whole place was very Finnish with white, pastel shades, and pale blues.

There’s a dining area too with a chef that cooks to order and a buffet area for starters, nibbles, salads, and desserts.

The waiters followed us around trying to ply us with more booze and asking if you wanted more to eat.

We felt very spoilt.

And what’s more there’s a sauna too! Men and female changing rooms, lockers, showers, white fluffy towels and slippers; all free to use. You don’t even need to take your swimmers, because you can just wrap yourself in a fluffy towel or two Nordic style.

And once you’ve sweated and showered and pampered yourself with the toiletries, it was back to the bar for more cocktails before our flight.

We loved it.

So how do we get in?

Well, if you are flying on Finnair (or any one world carrier) from Helsinki to the UK (British Airways doesn’t do that route anymore) and you have a BA Gold card (or one world equivalent), you can use this lounge. And of course, take in a guest too.

Interestingly the lounge is not available to people who are flying within the Schengen zone - only outside it. So Finland to UK is fine.

Does that single fact make this lounge the one and only positive benefit of Brexit? 🤔 Maybe! 😂
