Bellini and the East....

Last night David, Ian, Stu and I went to the Bellini and the East exhibition at the National Gallery.

It was a fascinating exhibition with images from the Muslim and Christian Eastern Mediterranean that were produced by the great Venetian sibling painters Gentile and Giovanni Bellini. Gentile Bellini spent over a year in Istanbul as the guest of Sultan Mehmet II where "it was widely known that they were friends".

It was a small exhibition but included Gentile Bellini's exquisite Seated Scribe.

Post-gallery we went to The Yard for a beer then Satsuma for eats. Ian, Stu and I then got a bit lost but found ourselves in the Kings Arms for a night-cap. The way you do.
