Mary Page Marlowe at @TheOldVic…

Last night I went to see Mary Page Marlowe at The Old Vic in glitzy London with Marcus.

The play charts decades in one woman’s life Mary Page (70 years, 11 scenes), through multiple actors, showing how all our selves add up.

It’s a mosaic of one woman’s life, shifting through time, marriage, motherhood, mistakes, alcohol, and second chances.

The powerhouse cast is led by magnetic @SusanSarandon as the older Mary and @AndreaRiseborough as the mid-life Mary (plus the remarkable @RosyMcEwen, @AlishaWeir and @EleanorWorthingtonCox) who all bring life to their versions of Mary Page.

Trouble is: although written by Pulitzer-winner Tracy Letts, for all the structure and stellar performances the piece ultimately lacks heart — you admire the craft, you applaud the acting, but you leave without that lingering emotional punch.
