Stuart and I visited some very tall rocks yesterday to see the Meteora monasteries. These are six Eastern Orthodox glorious buildings perched on massive sandstone pillars like God left his lego out. Apparently 14th century monks used ladders, pulleys and nets to get up there which sounds like a health and safety nightmare even for the devout.
Now it is a UNESCO site full of frescoes and artifacts.
