Last night Stuart & I went to see Justin Vivian Bond’s Sex With Strangers at the iconic Soho Walthamstow.
We were absolutely riveted. Bond (@mxviv), backed by their ace five‑piece band led by musical director Matt Ray, conjured up an evening of cabaret steeped in Marianne Faithfull lore. From the smoky “Broken English” to the haunting “Ballad of Lucy Jordan,” there wasn’t a wrong note or story in sight.
The venue itself, a beautifully restored art‑deco gem on Walthamstow high street, gleamed with glitzybar lights and boasted an intimate atmosphere that transformed every anecdote - from Bond’s Dairy Queen epiphany to tales from the Faithfull archives - into electrifying theatre.
Special mention to guitarist/singer Nath Ann Carrera and the effortlessly chic Matt Ray’s band.
Big cheers to @sohotheatre for hosting such a bold and soulful night out.
