A huge start to the @ChampionsLeague campaign for @arsenal last night.
Coming off the bench, @gabimartinelli scored just 36 seconds after being introduced, before linking up with @ltrossard to seal a 2-0 win over @athleticclub in Bilbao.
The home side, back in the competition for the first time since 2014/15, pushed hard in front of a loud San Mamés crowd and caused problems early on. But Mikel Arteta’s men held firm, with the quality of the squad depth proving decisive.
Martinelli, fighting to rediscover his best form after losing his starting spot to new signing @ebere_10, made the difference when it mattered, providing the first goal and assist to lift the Gunners to a winning start.
Three points. A clean sheet. The perfect opening night in Europe.
